ELK RANGE MOUNTAIN SAFETY COALITION JOINS TOGETHER TO OFFER AN INTENSIVE EDUCATIONAL PROGRAM AIMED AT PROVIDING ENTHUSIASTS WITH THE SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND CONFIDENCE TO HAVE A SAFE AND SUCCESSFUL SUMMER BACKCOUNTRY EXPERIENCE.
An alliance of Roaring Fork Valley mountaineering experts including Aspen Alpine Guides, and Aspen Expeditions Worldwide, Mountain Rescue Aspen the White River National Forest, and the Pitkin County Sheriff’s Office are collaborating on an initiative to bring added awareness to mountain safety in the Elk Range. In partnership, as the Elk Range Mountain Safety Coalition, the group is set to offer a combination of classroom presentations and field clinics with a common curriculum focused on overarching topics such as risk assessment, rescue procedures, basic planning, gear guidance, and mountain etiquette.
Field Planning & Skills Clinics

This mountain safety course is provided by the Elk Range Mountain Safety Coalition which joins together to offer an intensive educational program aimed at providing enthusiasts with the skills, knowledge, and confidence to have a safe and successful summer backcountry experience.
This skills course is taught by one of our guides and will cover:
- trip and route planning
- practical skills
- rope and anchor work
- terrain familiarization

Please bring your own lunch, snacks, and water as well as layers as part of the clinic is outside.
