Aspen Backcountry Marathon GROUP TRAINING

Aspen Alpine Guides has partnered with the Aspen Backcountry Marathon to host weekly group training runs. Saturdays have been assigned as long run days and Tuesdays have been set as track workout days which will meet at the Aspen Valley High School Track. The schedule is designed as a social run that will enable all participants to run, jog or walk each section of the marathon course (please click below for detailed schedule). All group runs start at 7:30 am and Saturday run meeting locations are listed on the schedule or on our calendar tab..

The full group training cost is $60 for all weekly sessions or $15 for individual group runs. Registered runners will receive a sampling of products from Hammer Nutrition but each runner is responsible for their own supplies such as water. An Aspen Alpine Guide runner will lead the group runs, will have medical training, and also carry a medical kit appropriate for the activity.

We will discuss race nutrition, hydration, up and downhill techniques as well as current films, music and anything else that can be thought of between breaths.

Please direct any special medical concerns or questions to steve@aspenalpine.com or to the guide prior to the run.

3 Peak Challenge / Non Standard Routes and Trips pricing

Climb North Maroon Peak traverse the ridge to South Maroon Peak descend and then climb Pyramid Peak all in one day, and claim the right to three fourteen thousand foot plus peaks in one day. This extreme climb is demanding and should be rated with the physical training and endurance of ultra marathons. This will be a long alpine day high in the mountains.

The day will begin at the Maroon Lake Parking Lot at 2:30am. The first peak to be climbed will be North Maroon. The traverse between North and South Maroon Peak will follow with a climb to the summit of South Maroon. After a short rest and summit photos on South Maroon the party will turn right back around and do the traverse to North Maroon again. From there it's back to the valley floor before ascending Pyramid Peak. Ropes, harnesses, and headlamps will be used at various times during the day.

Over 8,600 feet of elevation gain and 11.5 miles will be traveled over the course of the day. This is a day for experienced mountaineers looking to prepare for the next step of climbing the Teton Traverse, Denali, or even Everest.

Due to the technical nature, objective/subjective risks involved during the day the guide/client ratio will be no more then 1:2. We will begin guiding the Three Peak Challenge beginning around July 15 and ending around September 30 subject to weather conditions and snow conditions on the mountains.

The price for the day is $950.00 for 1 person and $350.00 additional for the second. Light packs, camelbacks, and the ability to move well in the high mountains are paramount for this day.

All participants will need to speak directly with Aspen Alpine Guides' owner and technical director of mountaineering about their qualifications for this challenge, Ron Rash (970)925-6618 or ronlrash@aol.com.
